Sunday Look: Gingham and Boots

Happy Sunday!  Rain, rain and more rain is how our Sunday started.  I’m very particular about what I wear when it’s raining.  I tend to dress a little more casual and carefully choose a shoe that doesn’t get ruined by the rain.
That’s today’s outfit, a casual gingham dress in black and white .  It disguises itself to look like a skirt with the side tie.    By the way gingham is trending.

I really wanted this look to pop and come off as being edgy.  I think I accomplished that by leaving the top three buttons open and adding a chunky necklace in the space.  I turned the cuffs up to revile the striped lining for a contrasting look. The icing on the cake, white ankle boots.  Not only are they stylish but they were the perfect footwear for a rainy day like today.  I’m loving how my legs look in these boots, this calls for a 😉  😉  LOL!    Had I not left the buttons open and kept the sleeves un-cuffed, it would have resulted in a very different look.   Don’t let these white boots scare you either.  They were trending BIG TIME this past winter.  Not many would dare to wear white boots in the dead of winter season.  BUT, Fashion is passion and I’m passionate about my FASHION…  anyway, a boot like this is ok to wear during the Spring and Summer months, it’s all up to you.  “If you like it, wear it”  that’s my  motto.  And I like it!

My BAG today was a white tote with ring handles and studs.  It sealed that edgy look I was going for 🙂  .

Sunday Look: Peach and Pearls

Happy Sunday!  Here we are again, blessed with a new month along with new adventures.  You know what that means, Mother’s Day is only a week away.  I posted my  Gift Giving Guide last night. You can find it following this Blog Post or search for Mother’s Day May 13, Gift Guide.  Feel free to share!

Mother’s Day Gift Guide
See the source imageThey say “April Showers bring May Flowers”.  It’s true just look at my dress.  Today’s outfit is a little peach floral swing dress.  I’ve always been a fan of the scuba like fabric.  The halter neckline makes it the perfect dress for Spring.   I feel this particular halter neckline is appropriate for church, the silhouette is not as revealing.  You could easily add a Spring cardigan for more coverage.

Accessorizing this dress was a no brainer to say the least.  The color definitely called for soft pearl jewelry.  A long pearl tassel necklace was the ideal choice for this neckline.  I added earrings set with multiple pearl and clear stones and a pearl bracelet. But the showstopper for me, were my champagne colored, block heel sandals embedded with pearls across the toe strap and heel.  I purchased these shoes about two or three months ago, they were a great find.  I wondered what I would pair them with besides jeans.  They served their purpose today by dressing up my little peach dress.  I recently shared them on my IG page styleyourbestbeauti  follow me for more fashion and fun stuff.

A little dress calls for the perfect handbag right?  I chose this peach flap bag with partial gold chain.  Yep, I did  it again choosing the right handbag for the right outfit 😉 .  I love when that happens.

Sunday Look: Casual Cold-Shoulder

Hello!  You ever wake up and say to yourself, I really don’t feel like dressing up today?  Well today was one of those days.  As I was looking for something to wear this morning, I passed on anything form fitting, long sleeves and slacks, even though I tried all of them on 😉 .
So happy I ran into this little playful cold-shoulder grey and white stripe dress.  It met all my needs.  There are so many myths about wearing stripes, especially horizontal stripes.  Let me debunk your worries.  They say stripes make you look fat, they draw attention to certain areas of your body, blah, blah, blah …  IF YOU LIKE IT, WEAR IT!  “They” can’t tell you what to wear or how!  That’s one of the reasons I started my BLOG.  I wanted to inspire the everyday women and let them know they can be who they are when it comes to fashion.

Enough of that, LOL… a dress like this is so easy to accessorize.  Let’s just say I added a little bling, bling with a large rhinestone necklace and long drop earrings.  As for my love of bangles, I piled them on today.  Lastly, a strappy sandal anchored it all together.  I had to show off my fresh pedicure 😉 .  NOW! since this dress is so casual and had I not been wearing it to church, I would have styled it differently.  I would have worn a simple hoop earring, watch or charm bracelet, no necklace and flat blingy sandals.  Pretty sure I will repeat this dress this summer styled as such!  Stay tuned.

Let’s talk about my BAG… First things first,  I watched this bag like a hawk until it was marked down.  I got very lucky and got it for the low, low price of 6.99 from $49.99.  I don’t usually talk prices, but this was a STEAL of a DEAL.  I love how large it is and it’s a conversation piece for sure.  You can also fold it over to make a clutch.  It’s a faux reptile print, side zipper and functional lock with key.  Fun, fun, fun…

Sunday Look: Dot, Dot, Dots

Hello and Happy Sunday!  Hope you all had a great week and did something fun.  You know, I had this idea that I wanted a new dress, I haven’t purchased one in a while.  Instead of going out for a new dress I decided to shop my closet.  There is always something new (even if I’ve had it for a couple of years) hiding with the tags still on it.
Today’s outfit a black and white fit and flare pleated dress with a solid black bodice and tons of black dots.  I’m pretty sure that was the attraction.  I actually played with this black and white theme a bit.   I had the option of a black shawl in case I got cold.  It looked really cute draped with the necklace.  I wasn’t cold therefore I didn’t need it.  Just an option other than the usual cardigan for those that feel uncomfortable being sleeveless for various reasons.

Speaking of twists, I love pompoms and pompom clip-ons, they can make a boring shoe pop!  I tried something a little different by wearing one each of the black and white pompom.  Totally outside the box and a fun addition.

I’m in love with this black and white pearl beaded necklace.  It’s always a conversation piece whenever I wear it.  I thought it paired well with the dress.  I also wore black and white round earrings.  I wanted to do something other than pearls.  I also added bangles on each arm.  I felt really put together in this outfit.  Black and White is so classic it’s hard to get it wrong.

My BAG today was an all white (chanel inspired) handbag trimmed in chain link.

I never talk much about make-up.  Today I went with a red lip and a smoky eye.  I like it you guys!

Don’t be afraid to step outside the box every now and then.  You just might like it 😉 !

Sunday Look: Season Transition

Happy Sunday!  Saying good-bye to Winter… as the season changes we sometimes get caught between the two.   Today was one of those days, I really didn’t know what to wear.  The struggle is real sometimes 😉 .  One day it’s cool and the next day it feels like Summer.  Even though I love the cooler weather, I’m ready for some bright colors and to be done with this roller coaster weather.  How do you transition to the next season?

Through all the confusion, I decided on a black sheer top with tulip sleeves and an embroidered blue and black ball skirt.  This light weight sheer top was perfect for a warm day like today.  The skirt being a little heavier helped to balance the entire outfit and it’s suitable for the season.  I wore the top untucked and added a skinny belt for dimension.

I kept the accessories pretty light today as well.  Wooden earrings and a knotted bead necklace.   Since everything else was pretty low key, I chose to bling it up with my shoes. The jeweled glitter platforms sparkle with blue and black tones.  The heel backs are jeweled up as well.

My BAG was a small blue handbag with gold accents.  Sometime less is more.

Sunday Look: Head To Toe Chic “In My Mother’s Dress”

Happy Sunday.  You know you live in Texas when you experience two seasons in two days, LOL!  I could have sworn it was summer on Saturday and today, well… I will leave it to your imagination.
When my mother passed away we didn’t keep a lot of her clothing.  We gave them away to a family friend.  We kept a few pieces, which I have in my possession.
Today’s outfit includes two of her things.   My dress and purse.  My mother has been gone for over a decade and this black sheath dress has never gone out of style.  I wear it once or twice a year.  No matter my size it always fits.  Today I added a belt to take it in a bit (it was a little big).  I also added a long mesh kimono for a more chic look.

Another Style Option: For a more tailored look, I could have added a blazer.
In addition to the belt, I wore a red and black scarf tied into a headband.  It was so windy today, a headband seemed like a good idea.  I kept the red going in two jewelry pieces, my necklace and earrings.  Instead of the usual black or red pump, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear these black ankle boots with a RED flower applique, so chic!  The pointy toe gave me life! 😉 .

My BAG as I mentioned was one of my mother’s.  It’s a simple black cloth clutch (very old).  It also has a short gold hand chain attached inside.  I love how old things can become new again with a little ingenuity!

Sunday Look: Vintage Bloom

Happy Sunday!  OMG guys I had a pretty busy, FUN and awesome weekend.  I was so tired I had to take a nap which is why my post is so late today.  I wore 5 inch heels from six o’clock yesterday evening until 2:30 this morning.  We attended Flavors of Austin fund raiser for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  We had the opportunity to meet some great NFL Legends.  My husband was in his element.  You know we had to partake in the after party!  My feet were so swollen and hurting this morning I could not wear any of my shoes 🙁 . That meant I needed a miracle because I don’t own very many flats 🙁    It took a little while to find something but I prevailed, LOL!

Todays outfit had to serve twofold.  I was going for a vintage look where I could incorporate the sock bootie (because I needed something soft on my feet).  I had this pencil skirt with beautiful floral blooms and a sheer top that was full of blooms as well.  I fell in love with this top because of the gathered elastic sleeves. Even though both pieces had two different textures, they gave me the vintage feel I was hoping to pull off.

In addition to my sock peep toe booties, I accessorized with pearl jewelry keeping with that soft vintage look.

My BAG today was  large cream tote.  Sometimes you just need a big bag to hold all the extra essentials, which I needed to have with me today.

Sunday Look: Animal Print Jacket Dress

Happy Sunday!  We had a very rainy Sunday morning which makes for some good sleep LOL!  We’ve had lots of rain lately.  Had to pull out the rain boots.  What do you wear on a Sunday morning when you aren’t feeling rain boots?  That was my dilemma this morning.   Animal print is what you wear LOL… surprisingly I saw several outfits this morning in animal print.   If I had to pick a favorite animal print I would say Leopard Print is my favorite.  It’s the perfect bold and classy print for Fall and Winter.  I haven’t worn it this winter at all, not sure why because I love it.

Today’s outfit features the Leopard print jacket dress.  The layers of fabric makes for an even flow rounding out this high-low jacket dress.  I added a wide belt to cinch my waist for a more tailored look.  I also added a black legging.  It even has pockets 🙂 that’s always a nice addition to any outfit.

In addition to the wide belt I wanted to wear an earring that stood out as well.  I did that with a three tier bauble.  Even though I wore a long necklace it was almost lost on the animal print.   I needed something bolder to stand out (lesson learned).  I wore my all time favorite pointy toe high heel pumps.  If it had been really cold out, I would have opted for thigh-high boots 😉 !  In addition to the black accessories I could have easily paired red or brown.  Both of these colors look great with Leopard animal print.  I also could have worn the jacket dress open with a black shift cinched at the waist with a patent red leather belt.  Oh! the possibilities!

My BAG was a flat envelop clutch.  I had a vision of a long rectangular clutch but I settled for a square one instead.  Sometimes you just know.

Sunday Look: Heritage Sunday

Happy Sunday!  Once a year we carve out a day or month to celebrate our Heritage.  Today we celebrated “Heritage Sunday” in dress and food.  There is so much history to uncover regarding all the different cultures, dress, colors, symbols, etc.  There were so many beautiful outfits today from t-shirts to full on head dress.  The entire church was popping with color!

My wardrobe does not consist of African clothing.  That meant I had to purchase something. In all honesty, I really didn’t know what I wanted to wear.  Believe it or not, I felt a little bit out of my comfort zone. I’ve always LOVED the clothing (on others) but never saw myself wearing it.  I think the clothing is absolutely without a doubt BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE.   I was overwhelmed with all the choices. I figured it was best to start out with baby steps.  I did that with this colorful high-low skirt with sash.  I felt like I was getting a twofer.  The ever so popular high-low trend and a beautiful cultural print.  I couldn’t think of anything better to accompany the skirt besides my trusty blue shell top.  Remember I said baby steps.  I think it paired pretty well.

I didn’t want to go overboard with the accessories either.  The skirt is bold enough to stand on its own.  But, I’m never without earrings 🙂 and hardly go without a bracelet or two.   I combined two necklaces for the look of one.  And a single bangle on each arm.  I’ve had this pair of blue suede shoes (no pun intended). They paired very well with the blue in my skirt.

My BAG is a play on texture.  The print is completely opposite of my skirt but the color connects them both, therefore it works!

Sunday Look: Symbolic Peek of Red

Happy Sunday! This weekend has been very emotional for me.  Happy emotions!  Our 11-year old grand daughter competed in the first ever National level of “The Amazing Shake”  We are so proud of her for making it to Atlanta to compete this weekend at Ron Clark Academy.  She didn’t win but she did very well making top 2 of the wild card, making her a WINNER in our eyes.  This was her first competition as a fifth grader. Talk about a great  accomplishment!  We are over the moon proud of her and hope she can go even further in next years competition.  For those that want to know more, simply Google”The Amazing Shake”.
Our granddaughter.

Not only is it  Valentines Day Week but February is the month of Red. It’s a symbol of “Women Heart Health Awareness” were we have a day to Go RED for Women.  I went RED for women in honor of my mother and daughter.  It’s also the symbol of support for children born with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD).  The color RED is symbolic for great causes. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/
Photo of My Daughter and I for “Go RED for Women”.

Today I didn’t go the full on red route, I went for a peek of red instead.  I’m wearing a faux leather ankle pant with a red silk tank top.  I added a Channel inspired black jacket over the tank (it was cold today).   I buttoned the bottom two buttons for a more fitted look.

I toyed with two options, shoes or boots.  Both worked, but I needed just a little more red.  I decided on red shoes and my coat has a combination of red and black.  I wore a matching necklace and earrings.  Silver bangles on one arm and red and silver on the other.

I needed a little sparkle and I got that with my red sequence handbag.
