Sunday Look: Heritage Sunday- An African Celebration

Hello, Happy Sunday!  I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine Weekend.  I sure did. The husband and I managed to snag a dinner reservation at the last minute. I skipped last weeks Blog Post, the dress I wore was previously blogged back in December of 2016, it still fit! ↓↓

Last October, I walked in a fashion show wearing a local designers African Clothing.  I was able to purchase a few pieces afterwards.  I wore one of the pieces for my birthday photoshoot last month.  This dress is called “Apuk”. ↓↓

Every February our church celebrates Heritage Sunday. It’s such an exciting time.  Today we had African Dancers accompanied by drummers. And a sermon fitting for the occasion. That brings me to today’s outfit. It was originally suppose to be a two piece pant suit.  Unfortunately the pants were too big (I guess I lost a few pounds since I purchased it).  I searched my closet to find something that would work with the jacket. I remembered I had this little green dress from a few years ago that I’d never worn.  I was wowed at how the two went together.  I took the sash from the jacket and used it as a high-waist tie on the dress. Instant gratification!

The accessories had to fit the occasion.  I always try to pull out one color in the fabric to accessorize.  Round disc earrings and my go-to wooden multi-colored beaded necklace paired ever so lovely.  I didn’t have green heels, (which I think would look amazing) I opted for a neutral high heel pump.  I love when the unexpected comes together.

My BAG, an Ark shaped bamboo handbag finished the look.

Sunday Look: Butterfly Maxi

Happy Sunday everyone.  Ever feel like there isn’t enough hours in the day?  I wish we had an extra day to just chill…  Time is moving, we’re moving deeper into the Fall season and I’m loving every minute of it!
Today’s outfit was a crowd pleaser, I got so many complements on this dress.  Funny, I was just saying last week that I didn’t wear very many maxi dresses and ended up wearing another one this week 🙂 .  The butterfly motif makes for a very exotic  look.  The abundance of fabric flows like a butterfly too.   Even though I love all the deep beautiful colors, I wasn’t happy with the overall look of the dress.  I changed the look by doing two little things.  For starters, I pushed the long elastic sleeves midway up my arms, doing this made a “bell-like” sleeve. I also added a wide belt to the elastic waistband.  These two simple changes created a totally different look.  It was that easy 😉 !

The neckline has a very deep “V” where I chose to wear a jeweled collar necklace.  It also has a front center split which mimics the V-neckline.  I decided on a neutral shoe, (pointy toe pumps) so they wouldn’t get lost in all the color.  The wide neutral belt served the same purpose, breaking up the color pallet. Plus, look at my waist… it’s cinched BABY! Colorful earrings and bangles rounded out the accessories.
Style Tip:  Don’t be afraid to use neutrals, they can enhance a bold color pallet.

My BAG today was a neutral tote, I felt like I needed something substantial next to all that colorful goodness 🙂 .

Sunday Look: Rainy Sunday in September

Happy Sunday! Hello to a rainy Sunday in September.  Even though it’s still Summer I can feel a change coming especially with the rain.  I’m so excited!  It seems like when September rolls around most folks jump into Fall mode immediately.  Granted some states are experiencing cooler temperatures, not here!  I’ve noticed people wearing darker colors too.  Not me, it’s still Summer and pretty warm…  I will continue my summer wear and color pallet for a little while longer even though I can’t wait for some COOLER weather.
Today’s outfit served two purposes.  It was raining this morning and it’s still hot (summer).  I deviated from what I was planning on wearing because of the rain.  At the last minute I decided to throw on some (dressy) ankle length denim slacks and a colorful sleeveless shell with faux pearl details around the neckline.  Putting these two together allowed me to be somewhat dressier than I would have been in a regular pair of denim jeans.

It’s so easy to take a simple outfit like this and dress it up by adding the perfect accessories.  I played off the color of the shell and the pearl detail by adding long silver/pearl earrings. I loaded up on silver bangles and rings.  I chose a very colorful shoe that made the whole outfit pop!

My hand BAG also popped, the quilted flap and the silver chain link outline fared well with the entire outfit.

This outfit was so easy to style, very effortless…  one of the great things about fashion, it should be effortless and fun.

Sunday Look: Summer Style In A Kimono

Happy Sunday!  What does one wear when it’s so Image result for sun HOT out?  I know it’s a struggle to keep cool while trying to be fashionable.  The first thing that comes to my mind “sleeveless”.
Today I took the perfect little sleeveless summer dress and paired it with a Kimono. (I wore the same dress in a different pattern a few weeks ago).   A Kimono can take a simple dress and turn it into something more stylish.  I love♥ how this look turned out.

Accessorizing was so easy too!  I picked two colors from the Kimono and used those colors in my accessories. My necklace made a statement.  I coordinated earrings and bangles to finish my jewelry look.  My shoes had to be platform peep-toe heels for the greatest impact 😉 .

Style Tip: One way to make your necklace a statement piece, combine two for one look.  If you really want to make a statement, combine two different colors which is what I did for this look.

My BAG today,  an orange handbag with a detailed “X” pattern on the front flap in addition to a decorative gold clasp and chain.   Perfect bag for this outfit.

Sunday Look: Hawaiian Burst Jumpsuit

Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day!  I’ve seen a lot of posts going around honoring  Dads. That makes me so happy to see them being celebrated.  We celebrated my husband today as well.  My father is no longer with us, I honored him too.
Let’s talk about today’s outfit.  I kept it pretty simple again this week.  I eyed this colorful jumpsuit a couple of months ago and thought it would be a staple in my wardrobe this Spring and Summer.  The wide leg jumpsuit with a floral motif featuring a surplice neckline, spaghetti straps, ruffle trim, a sash and best of all an abstract pattern at the hem.  That set the tone for my “neon” accessories.

I accessorized with that same accent color in my earrings and necklace. I added pastel yellow and green bangles as well.  My neon pumps evened out everything.  That leads me to a Style TipPick out one color in an outfit and play off that color. You will be surprised how well the outfit pops

My BAG today, a pastel green quilted bag with a fold over flap and gold chain.

Sunday Look: Floral Print Ruffle Dress

Happy Sunday!  Blessings for another week.  I have to say this past week was rather uneventful.  Although we had the usual Saturday of grand girls sporting events.  It’s still pretty warm and I’m so ready for some cooler weather.  I sound like a broken record I know, I know 🙂 …

I’m also not ready for all those dark muted colors either.  I’d like to think I’m a colorful kind of girl.  I never use to be a fan of floral print.  I purchased a floral dress a couple of years back.  I looked at that dress for a long time.  I liked it, then I didn’t.  I thought it was ugly actually.  But I couldn’t leave it in the store.  When I finally wore it I was in love and have been every since.  Most probably think floral prints are for Spring and Summer months only.  There are some beautiful floral prints of reds, gold, orange and greens that flow well into the Fall and Winter seasons.  I’m already thinking about what I’ll wear in December.  I can’t wait!
Today’s outfit is floral of course LOL.  I was drawn to this dress immediately, I’m not sure if it was the print or all the ruffles.  This dress has an allover floral print, a V-neckline, a waist sash-belt, long sleeves with split ruffle cuffs, and a ruffle hem. Can you get any more girly?  I felt like my youngest grand daughter wanting to twirl.

Last night when figuring out how to style this dress I went through several necklaces.  Whichever necklace I chose would dictate the earrings.  You know pearls were my first choice.  I ultimately decided on this gold multi-tasseled necklace and large loop earrings.   I know pearls go with everything but there was something about this necklace that fit perfectly in the V-neckline, (this necklace was a birthday gift).  I chose to wear a nude patent leather platform heel.  Every nude shoe I tried on worked.  It was all about the color “nude” that paired well with all the colors.

My BAG today was BIG! Sometimes you just now what goes well and what doesn’t.  This “doctor bag” looking handbag with a diamond stitched pattern was a very good choice I think.

Sunday Look: Pom, Poms and Tassels

Happy Sunday!  It’s been a busy last couple of weeks.  Last week we were in Oklahoma cheering on our grand daughter at her basketball regionals.  I’m last posting today as well.  I was out school clothes shopping for one of our grand girls. Taking advantage of tax free shopping.
As the summer season trickles down you can still take advantage of all the summer trends.  Todays outfit is a bright bohemian burst of color shift dress with cold shoulder cutouts and a bouquet of multi colored tassels and pom-poms.  I have a feeling these trends will continue into the fall months.

I continued the tassel trend by wearing like colored earrings.  The bouquet of tassels and pom-poms took the place of a necklace.  Mules with a neutral and colorful strap finished the look.

My BAG today was a neutral tote with a pom-pom/tassel charm.  I thought it was a fun addition in keeping with the theme.
We all know trends come and go.  I like to hang onto things because eventually they make a comeback 😉 .

Sunday Look: Old Meets New

Happy Sunday everyone!  Summer has arrived and I’m feeling the heat.  My summer wardrobe will be renewed styling.  How? I will mix and match some of my older summer wear with any new pieces I happen to pick up this season. The goal is to not break the bank, stay stylish and cool! no pun intended. 🙂

Today’s outfit is a combination of old and new.  This one piece spaghetti  jumpsuit deserves a second or even third wear.  When old meets new it all becomes new again.   The new is this colorful kimono.  When I first saw it I knew how I would style it.  It’s giving me a Japanese inspired look.   This kimono can easily be paired with a skinny jean or shorts & tank, sundress, leggings and used as a swimsuit cover-up.  The styling possibilities are endless.

My accessories consisted of my usual, earrings, necklace and bracelet. I chose open toe cork heels to not compete with the kimono.  The kimono is so colorful it doesn’t need any help. BUT….

My BAG, OMG I am so obsessed with the Gaia’s Ark bamboo handbag.  I didn’t hesitate to pair it with my kimono for a Japanese inspired look. Styling success! I’m so obsessed, don’t be surprised it you see it again and again…

Don’t hesitate to bring out the old and mix with something new!

Happy Sunday everyone! What a busy weekend and its finally coming to an end. No time to really plan an outfit for today. I guess I got lucky with this fit and flare skirt and tangerine high-low top. I purchased both of them a while ago [at separate times] not knowing how I would style either. I love the flow of this skirt, its giving me that Stepford Wives vibe. Instead of just letting the top swallow me up, I belted it (WITH A POP OF COLOR) for a more flattering appearance. It gives a totally different look than if I had left it loose.

My mint green bag is the statement piece to this outfit, it says SPRING (yasssss!) My shoes (BOGO) are loaded with bright colors and ties the entire outfit together. Lastly, PEARLS are always a good idea!  Don’t you just love COLOR?  I couldn’t have planned this if I tried.

Style Tip- You know you got it right when the complements flow.

Happy Sunday everyone. What a beautiful day this turned out to be. We had great praise and worship this morning.

It’s SPRING, so let the bright colors begin. Today turquoise is the main attraction. I decided to pull out the brightest color in my top to showcase my entire outfit. The skirt is by the same designer as the top, sold as separates. I could have chosen just about any color skirt to pair with my top. I think the red helps to break up the turquoise in my jewelry, shoes and bag. I think it all paired wonderfully. This outfit would be just as cute if the two were reversed.  Get ready for floral prints this spring 😉

Remember, there are no rules when it comes to fashion. If you like it, wear it… Enjoy your week!
